Netherlands Embassy visits Daugavpils

On 7 February 2012 a delegation of the Netherlands Embassy in Riga, headed by the Ambassador of the Netherlands in Latvia, His Excellency Mr. Jurriaan Kraak, visited Daugavpils. The Netherlands’ Ambassador and his team were warmly received.

In Daugavpils City Council Ambassador Kraak and the Senior Officer for Trade and Investment Promotion Mr. Juris Dreimanis met with the Chairperson Mrs. Žanna Kulakova, Deputy Chairperson Vitālijs Azarevičs, the Head of the Business Development Department Mr. Vladimir Nadezdin and the representatives of the Development Department of the City Council. Developments in Daugavpils and co-operation possibilities with the Netherlands on such themes as investment and business interest, public projects for the municipal infrastructure, energy efficiency, transport and logistics were discussed. Also, Ambassador Kraak was introduced to the plans of Daugavpils municipality in the sphere of tourism, youth employment and cross-border cooperation projects.

At the University of Daugavpils, Ambassador Kraak was introduced to the R&D achievements and the plans in natural science and biological research.

Also in the morning of 7 February, Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission Mr. Cornelis J. Groeneveld visited Daugavpils Russian Secondary school - Lyceum and Daugavpils state gymnasium for presentations on the Netherlands and studying in the Netherlands. The latter presentation was given by the programme coordinator of the Holland Education Support Center in Riga, Ms. Sanita Lāce.

After a very pleasant lunch hosted by Mrs. Žanna Kulakova, Ambassador Kraak and his team visited Daugavpils Railway Locomotive Repair plant, East Metal Ltd. and the Transport and Communications Institute (TSI). They were received, met and spoke with executives of the said firms and Institute.
